-----Athol Fugard ------
ATHOL FUGARD,
Distinguished Playwright, Actor and Director,
will receive the Bellarmine Medal of Honor
from Reverend Aloysius P. Kelley, S.}.,
President of Fairfield University
Address by Mr. Fugard following the ceremony.
Athol Fugard's plays are prophetic of the violent
struggle for racial justice and human dignity in
South Africa. "The Blood Knot," in its
25th anniversary revival at Yale Repertory Theatre,
received the highest acclaim in the national press
and will soon be seen in Philadelphia before going
on to New York.
Its return to the American stage at this time is all the
more poignant as Black South Africans protest the
inhumanity of apartheid and suffer mass arrests
and murder.
