Mitchell-Ruff Duo
A Touch of Jazz Class
Formed in 1955, this famous duo has stayed
together for thirty years. They have performed
with such legendary jazzmen as Dizzy Gillespie
and Lionel Hampton, and starred with the Boston
Pops Orchestra.
They took the Soviet Union by storm when they
introduced American jazz at the Moscow Jazz
Festival in 1959. This success story was
recounted in major magazines and in the book
Willie and Dwike.
In 1981 these two ambassadors of jazz
introduced their special brand of American
culture to China in a tour that duplicated the
excitement in the Soviet Union.
Their program at Fairfield University will be
spontaneous selections from a repertoire that
delights all lovers of jazz.
