The Oratory
June 28, 1875
Madam
If I did not answer your letter, and I cannot tell whether I did or didn’t, it was because I did not know what answer to make to it, and because I have far more letters than I am able to answer, and because circumstances have lately hindered me from answering letters.
I hope you will take this as my excuse, and be sure that my silence does not arise from any want of respect for you
I am, Madam,
Your faithful servant
John H Newman
I know nothing whatsoever of any “Mr. Charles Lloyd and his sisters.” If I did, I would give you information about them.
