Description	Typed rough draft of a letter with marginal notes from Mrs. Audrey Thomson, the Director of Special Events at Fairfield University, to artist Corita Kent. “Outstanding Women” was the theme of Fairfield University’s eighth annual cultural festival held in autumn of 1971. This note is part of an exchange of letters between Audrey Thomson, Director of Special Events, with Corita Kent and Mary Downey (sister of Corita Kent), regarding an exhibition of the artist’s serigraphs as part of this festival.
Notes	Corita Kent (November 20, 1918 – September 18, 1986) also known as Sister Mary Corita Kent, was an artist and educator of international fame. She entered the Roman Catholic order of Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Los Angeles in 1936 and later ran the Art Department at Immaculate Heart College until 1968 when she left the order to work as an artist in Boston. Her vibrant artwork, with its messages of love and peace, became particularly popular during the social upheavals of the 1960s and 1970s.

Will you be available in the East on Sunday, September 19, the day of the Festival's outdoor Arts & Honors Program? If you can be here we would like to honor you among four distinguished women and open an exhibition of your paintings. Artist Corita Kent, Ella Fitzgerald, and Shirley Chisolm are others we have chosen to honor. In the past our Festivals have included such people as Richard Rodgers, Aaron Copland, Dave Brubeck, Gordon Parke, Licia Albanese, Jame Earl Jones, Billy Taylor, and Jose Greco. Fairfield is a Jesuit University, co-ed within the last year, with aoproximately 2000 students. We are located on Long Island Sound one hour away from New York.
