A Brief History
Twenty years ago the Fairfield University
School of Nursing announced
that it had received accreditation from
the Connecticut Commission for
Higher Education . Accreditation
marked the culmination of plans for
the school that had begun as early
as 1964 when Lillian B. Reilly, chief
of the Connecticut State Board of
Nurse Examiners urged the University
to fill the need for a Catholic School
of Nursing in Connecticut. Greenwich
Hospital, Stamford Hospital and St.
Joseph's Hospital in Stamford also
realized the need for a new baccalaureate
nursing program in Fairfield
