CampaignI"A" the candidates were very worthy. Every candidate took an active role, and I hope they all take an active role no matter what the outcome, as I plan to. I want to tailor the existing resources at Fairfield to student needs so students can take full advantage of what Fairfield has to offer. I also hope to revitalize the Student Leadership Council that was started several years ago and has since tapered off. Campaign:"1 want t0 be FUSA President to create improvement, continuity, and spirit not only in FUSA but also in the lives of all students. I want to create a Student Activities Board, increase funding for student clubs with the sale of a Student Activities Pass, and at the suggestion of Larri Mazon and Ben Haymes, of the AHANA Student Council, propose the position of "Vice President of Special Interests/Multicultural Relations." The only thing I can guarantee is that I will work very hard, and only together can we realize the enormous potential in our lives as students Roker named keynote speaker at awards dinner > Veatherman Al Roker will host t lis year's awards dinner in April. Photo: Public Relations Christine Hamel Assistant News Editor The honored guest and keynote speaker at the 1995 Fairfield Awards Dinner will be Al Roker, WNBC's weathercaster and feature reporter for NBC's "Saturday Today" show. The dinner will be held on April 18 at the Hyatt Regency in Greenwich. Chairperson for the event is John Swanhaus Jr., '67, vice president for sales and marketing for PepsiCo International. The event raises funds for the Multicultural Scholarship at Fairfield which is providing financial aid for six students for this current year. Roker has been involved with such causes as the MS Foundation, the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program, Outward Bound, and the March of Dimes. Aside from those organizations, Roker has been involved in educational programs such as last fall's PBS primetime special dealing with nationwide reforms in math and science. At the dinner, two alumni and one faculty member also will be honored. William P. Egan "67, will receive the Alumni Service Award and Joellin R. Comerford '74 will receive the Outstanding Professional Achievement Award. The Rev. Joseph F. MacDonnell, S.J., will receive the Distinguished Faculty Award. Egan is a member of the Roard of '1 ustees, the Finance Committee, and the Ad-Hoc Committee for Athletics. In the past, he has chaired the Advancement Committee and been a member of the Fairfield Awards Committee and the Campaign for Fairfield Cabinet. After graduating from Fairfield, Egan earned his M.B.A. from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. He is a managing partner of Burr, Egan, Deleage, & Co., a venture capital firm located in Boston. In 1986, Egan and his wife, Jacalyn, helped Fairfield by achieving its long-held vision of building a chapel in honor of his parents, John and Marion Egan. Comerford is receiving the Outstanding Professional Achievement Award. An English major at Fairfield, she earned her M.B.A. from Cornell University and serves on the board of trustees at St. Peter's College in Jersey City, New Jersey. Throughout the 1980s, Comerford was at the center of many of Andersen Consulting's most successful investment banking and securities projects, and was recently promoted to worldwide Managing Partner, Business Process Management. Professor of mathematics, the Rev. Joseph F. MacDonnell, S.J., is receiving the Distinguished Faculty Award. MacDonnell earned his master's degree in mathematics from Fordham University and his doctorate in mathematical education from Columbia University. Father MacDonnell came to Fairfield in 1969 after he and other Jesuits were forced by the Baathi regime to leave Iraq where he taught at the Jesuit founded Baghdad College and Al Hikma University. Recently, he published "Jesuits by the Tigris", which details the courageous efforts by the Jesuits to bring education to Iraq over a 37 year period. In 1986, Father MacDonnell was voted "Teacher of the Year" by the Alpha Sigma Nu honor society.
