DiBuono and Chomick ran as a ticket, and won in a landslide election that was also marked by the lowest turnout in recent history. BY CARA MUZIK In an election with startlingly low turn-out, Jessica DiBuono '06 defeated classmate Ashlee Fox '06 for the position of FUSA president by over 300 votes Tuesday night. "I'm completely overwhelmed," DiBu-ono said, minutes after learning of her vic-tory. "I simply cannot put into words how thrilled I am to be allowed such an amazing opportunity. I'm so thankful to the student body for this chance to do great things next year." Fox, who received 288 votes to DiBuono's 600, was disappointed at the loss, but said she has no regrets about her effort. "It's just been a very long week," she said. "I'm^ort of numb to things right now. Overall, this was a great experience and I'm glad to have gone through it. I'm excited for Jess and Kristina because they worked really hard, too. I'll just get up tomorrow and go back to being a student again." MIRROR SNAPSHOT VOTER TURNOUT This year's voter turnout was theworst showing iie*er 15 years, with less than 25 percent of students wing. Though Saville could not be reached for comment, Chomick expressed gratitude for the support that she and DiBuono received. "I'm just so, so happy," she said. "We're so thankful to everyone who came out and voted and showed faith in us and our plat-form. I can't say thank you enough to every-one for all their help with our campaign." In terms of their platform, DiBuono and Chomick plan to increase the communication and interaction between the different branch-es of FUSA to create a more unified student government. They also plan to make FUSA more accessible to the student body through the creation of a school-wide news-letter, as well as better publicized meetings and easily available meeting minutes. "It's really good that Jess and Kristina ran on a ticket together," Fox said. "It will ensure cohesiveness in FUSA since their goals will be geared towards a common platform." DiBuono joins the ranks of ground-breaker Karen Donoghue who shattered the glass ceiling here at Fairfield, becoming the first female president ofFUSA since women began being admitted in 1970.
