Finally, they reviewed a number of documents, including the reports and recommendations prepared annually based on our alumni surveys and employer surveys. faculty with an opportunity to look critically at curriculum and policies, evaluate and refine both programs, and identify strengths and future plans. The granting of full accreditation attests to the fact that the program has undergone intensive peer review and has met the highest standards. • t; •I it has been awarded i 1 continuingaccreditation " of the B.S. N program for eight years, and initial accreditation of the MSN program for five years. These time frames represent the maximum periods of accreditation for continuing and initial accreditation granted by the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission. While this was the recommendation of the program evaluation team that visited the School of Nursing in the Fall of 1997, it was not until March of 1998 that the news became official. In October of 1997, a team of program evaluators spent three days interviewing School of Nursing administrators, faculty and students. They visited with University administrators, nursing alumni, and clinical agency personnel, spending time in approximately fifteen of the school's affiliating clinical agencies. In addition, they observed classes Among the many strengths cited in the agency's report were: 1) the strong commitment of the faculty to the program and its students; 2) the variety of clinical experiences offered to students; 3) faculty productivity in terms of publication, scholarship, and service; 4) alumni satisfaction with and pride in the program; 5) the integration ofleaming and community service through the school's Health Promotion Center in Bridgeport; and 6) the reflection of the University mission and goals in many aspects of faculty and student academic life. The school's re-accreditation is the culmination of a two-year intensive self-study that presented the All three program evaluators were very impressed with the students, alumni and faculty with whom they met. They commented on how articulate, well prepared and committed to the University mission the students were, and they were overwhelmed by comments from alumni about how Fairfield's nursing program had changed their lives. The School would like to thank all of the alumni who participated in this challenging and rewarding process, and thank all alumni for your continued good work in nursing and your support of the School of Nursing and the University. Save the date! The Annual School of Nursing Alumni Brunch and Awards Ceremony will be held on Sunday, November 15, 1998. Check your mailbox for further information in the next few weeks.
