Welcome to the Spring 2013 semester! I trust that it will be a productive and fulfilling time for each of you. In partnership with our university collaborators, we have planned a rich array of opportunities for faculty, professional staff and our community partners. Will you join us for our Community of Writers retreats or writing circles, teaching circles or the June Course Design Institute? Will you become a leader in the Peer Review of Teaching movement? Might you participate in our collaborative workshops, tech bytes, or our Community Engaged Scholarship Series? Will we collaborate with you during faculty development day, or our Assessment Forum and Institute? Perhaps we will host your presentations at our 12th Annual Conference. Surely we’ll see you for an MAT or an individual or departmental consultation. The possibilities are many, and I hope that you find them inviting. I look forward to collaborating with you in the coming months, Pat Spring 2013 Newsletter CAE hosts Spring-into-Spring Day To spring into the new semester, the CAE collaborated with Jay Rozgonyi, Mary Kleps, Debbie Whalley of Computing & Network Services, Joan Clark of the DiMenna-Nyselius Library, and Curt Naser, creator of Mentor, to facilitate sessions to help faculty get their Spring courses ready. Topics included a refresher on teaching resources, and sessions on Blackboard and Mentor, and the new Portal, my.Fairfield.edu. Look for a similar offering prior to the start of the Fall 2013 semester. Building a Community of Writers In collaboration with Dr. Cinthia Gannett, Director of Core Writing and Faculty Consultant on Writing, the CAE launched a series of writing retreats and helped facilitate the formation of writing circles. Join us this Spring for mini-retreats on select Thursday and Friday mornings. Issued in December 2012, shared with deans of each school, and available online for all. Faculty Take In Tech Bytes During the Fall semester, the CAE collaborated with Computing & Network Service’s Academic Technology team for tech bytes on Kaltura video streaming, Blackboard Learn, and a hugely popular “iPads in the Classroom” session. More tech bytes coming up this semester.
